SLE Sustainability is made up of me, Suzie Elkerton. I have been working in the field of sustainability for a decade, coming to it later on after a ‘first career’ spanning project management, communications, marketing, business development and events at a number of high profile organisations such as the BBC, Allen & Overy LLP and the Japanese Embassy in London.
Following up on a longheld interest in the environment and eco design, I completed an MSc in Architecture: Advanced Environmental & Energy Studies at the inspiring Centre For Alternative Technology in Wales, which opened my eyes to the myriad critical issues facing both people and planet.
I started to learn about healthy buildings, renewables, the waste hierarchy, the circular economy, and how people can interact with all things ‘eco’ in a healthy and sustainable way. I got my hands dirty and built with straw bale and rammed earth, played with natural lighting design and discovered an appreciation for green roofs and the fantastic sustainable qualities of bamboo.
After graduating, I went on to work for some fantastic companies doing great things in the green sector, including the Carbon Trust and Marks & Spencer on their Plan A sustainability programme. I count myself lucky to have worked with some great individuals and companies thus far!
Several years ago I turned to freelancing and I haven’t looked back since. My innate ‘chameleon-esque’ adaptability coupled with being an experienced project manager and communicator across several fields means I can hit the ground running – and I do so love the challenge of a new project!
“The field of sustainability is vast and fascinating and I am keen to meet and work with clients from all walks of the low carbon life.”
